Information on organisation

History:
The department was established in 1952 as the Department of Electrification. The first task of the new department was to obtain the basic technical equipment, electronic apparatuses, measuring equipment and other appliances needed for tuition and research. In 1960, the Department merged with the Department of Tractor Fleet Utilization, creating the Department of Corporate Mechanization and Electrification. In 1965 the departments split up; the independent Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation subsequently existed until 1970, when the aforesaid departments joined up again to create the Department of Corporate Mechanization and Electrification. The dynamic development of computing and automation technologies and their practical application brought the management of the Faculty to a decision to re-establish the independent Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation as of 1st September 1986. At the same time, the Faculty likewise launched a five-year interdepartmental specialization provided by the Faculty of Mechanization of the CUA and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the CTU and called “Automation and Robotization of Technological Process in Agricultural Production.” The Department has also arranged and organized a five-term post-graduate programme called “Microelectronics and Automation in Agriculture”. In 1993, the FME CTU and FM CUA opened a new interdepartmental study programme titled “Automation and Regulation Technology” which remains open as of this day.
Focus:
The Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation focuses on the tuition, research and development, and on consultancy in the area of applied electrical engineering science, electric propulsion, electric power engineering, electric measurements and metrology, system modeling and simulation, automation, robotization and flexible production systems.
Educational activity:
The Department teaches nineteen subjects in six full-time and combined Faculty study programmes and one subject for the Faculty of Forestry and Environment and its study programme Forestry and Engineering. Professor Klíma is a guarantor of a subject taught in English language as a part of a study programme “Technology and Environmental Engineering”. Professor Bohuslávek is a guarantor of a study programme “Information and Regulation Technologies in APK). Professor Pokorný is a guarantor of a study programme “Automation and Regulation Technologies” Some members of the department (professor Klíma, professor Pokorný, professor Bohuslávek) are also the authors of numerous university textbooks. The staff of the department also prepares modern teaching aids (such as CD-ROM textbooks, preparations, models and manuals for laboratory seminars etc). Computing and audiovisual equipment is used in classes. The teachers also act as the supervisors and opponents of master’s and bachelor’s diploma dissertations. Upon a request by professor Gross from zFLE, the Department also arranges selected electric power measurements for senior graduate students of the Department of Forest Harvesting.
Research activity:
The research activities of the Department focus on energy-saving systems, electric properties of cattle meat in relation to its fat content, reduction of electric power consumption, efficient utilization of renewable energy resources, regulation of electric propulsion, introduction of automation, information and regulation technologies into production, system modeling and simulation, electronic measuring instruments. The Department also offers professional consultations in specialization areas pursued by its staff. The Department also acts as a guarantor of a subject taught as a part of the faculty’s postgraduate programme. Three members of the staff participate in the scientific councils of various postgraduate study programmes. Professor Pokorný is the chair of the Scientific Council for Energy Engineering
International contacts:
The Department cooperates with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation of the Faculty of Mechanization of SPU in Nitra.
