The department work from Faculty of Forestry redintegration in the year 1990. The department was issociated with wood branch under the name Department of Forest Harvesting and Timber Processing till the year 2003. Two Deparment were established in the year 2003 - Department of Forest Harvesting and Department of Timber Processing. Chief of the department was Prof. Ing. Ivan Roček, CSc. until the year 2003. Prof. Ing. Josef Gross, CSc. took charge of new department in the year 2003.
Focus:
Department of Forest Harvesting is ground development for forestry study and eminent for all fields of studies us at Faculty of Forestry and Environment us for other faculties of Czech University of Agriculture in Praque.
Educational activity:
The ground studies (subjects) are taught in the field of the forestry and the forest ingineering – harvesting, timber transport, wood manipulation and forestry mechanisation. These subjects are in other study programs united and scope of study is jogging and hauling working in the forest.
We have got for the rest faculties Principles of the Forest Management (the subject have got the encyklopedic character of the wood draft) and Priciples of the Forest Production (that is technical economic).
Experience is part of the study for the students of first and fourth grade. First experience is specialized for ground works in the forest – fell, wood transport and manipulation. Second experince is realized on the forest enterprises (state forests, forest stock companies etc.) in first level of administration.
Research activity:
Research development is concentre for logging and transport technologies and their influence of environment. Specialization are harvester technologies and cable systems. There are studied economical and time demand factor of the productions at work with the forestry mechanisation. The part of the reserch is the rare wood use, measuaring and wood scalling.
International contacts:
The foreign cooperation is with Technical University in Zvolen, Academy
of Agriculture in Crakow, Technical University in Lvov and Technical University in Dresden. Between Department of Forest Harvesting and foreign institutes that have similar priority there are mainly return residencies in scope of program Erasmus.
