Information on organisation

History:
Department of Lifelong Learning and Study Support (DLLSS) in the Institute of Education and Communication (IEC) originated on 1st June 2005 by transformation of the former Department of Pedagogy in the university rectorate. It had a longstanding tradition, mainly in the area of training of vocational subject teachers in the secondary, vocational and apprentice training centres in agriculture, forestry and other related fields of study. In compliance with the Long-term Program CULS in Prague the original Department of Pedagogy was transformed into the Institute of Education and Communication of CULS in Prague, and the new Department of Lifelong Learning and Study Support became a constituent part with other newly created departments.
Focus:
Department is focused on organizing education within lifelong learning programs, mainly in the primary pedagogical training of teachers of vocational subjects and programs of further education of pedagogical staff. It organizes accredited courses for teachers of vocational subjects in secondary vocational schools focused on agriculture, forestry and other related areas; for practical training of teachers and expert consultants registered in the Ministry of Agriculture network, and for other staff in the agro-complex. Target groups for the educational activities are agro-complex staff who need pedagogical and psychological training in their work. The Department has its own section of health support for disabled students, and is a methodological centre for this within the entire university.
Educational activity:
Department staff participate significantly in education courses in accredited Bachelor study programs guaranteed by the IEC. DLLSS continues the tradition of the former Department of Pedagogy in the area of training of teachers of vocational subjects within the lifelong learning programs. It organizes, with other departments, education within complementary pedagogical study of vocational subject teaching, teaching of practical training and preceptorship in school facilities. It organizes such study also for daily CULS students as a parallel study. It organizes innovative accredited courses for teachers of vocational subjects in secondary vocationa schools and apprentice schools focused on agriculture, forestry, ecology (and other related fields of study) according to the needs. According to the demand and interest, it organizes education in courses for practical training of teachers, and for expert consultants registered in the Ministry of Agriculture. Section on health of disabled student support provides especially methodological and technical training of university staff for work with such students. In the CULS campus in Suchdol there is an established consultancy centre for special needs students.
Research activity:
Research activities of the Department are focused on market research in the area of education, and the educational needs of applicants for various forms of lifelong learning in vocational education. It cooperates with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Interior, and with employment offices. It participates in research activities of the IEC in projects in education, both in the Czech Republic and in international projects. It monitors and suggests proposals to develop the study possibilities of disabled students in university study programs.
International contacts:
Department continues international collaboration with foreign education institutions which developed in the original Department of Pedagogy. In international activities, it focuses on collaboration with relevant institutions engaged in lifelong learning and health support for disabled students. It has very good contacts with universities in Great Britain (Reading, Plymouth), and Wageningen (the Netherlands), with Tampere Polytechnic (Finland), and with the Slovak Agriculture University in Nitra.
