Information on organisation

History:
As a single-semester subject, Law has been taught at the University of Agriculture since as early as in 1961. The independent Department of Law was set up in 1968. In the years 1967 to 1985 the education in collective-farming laws was politically biased and the Department has become one of the centres of such education. In 1985 it launched a series of courses for top management of agricultural enterprises. Since 1989 the students´ interest in the lectures in Law had been increasing to the extent that in 1992/1993 as many as 60 students passed the eligible state examination is the subject ´Legal Regulation in Business´ and the interest has been maintained in a number of other subjects up to now. Since the establishment of the Department the following Heads had been in office: Prof. JUDr Pavel Vokatý, CSc., Ass.Prof. JUDR Zbyněk Kiesewetter, CSc, JUDr ing. Jiřina Homolková, CSc., and since the year 2000 JUDr Viktor Jansa, CSc has been the Head.
Focus:
The Department´s mission has been to provide the students with the knowledge in Law that is required in their future career. The curricula have been reconstructed in all CULS faculties to provide continuity of separate subjects offered by the Department so that the students could achieve a theoretical background and the follow-up knowledge in separate legal concepts. The Department of Law has not only been the largest disseminator of the knowledge of law among the non-lawyers in the Czech Republic but with respect to its educational activities it has maintained a high level of the studies of the most recent legal trends connected with the implementation of the European Law into the Czech Republic´s legislative system.
Educational activity:
General studies: The Department of Law provides the subject in "Elements of Legal Studies" at all CULS faculties (except for the Institute of Tropics and Subtropics) and in all forms of studies, i.e. on-campus and combined. Its aim is to teach the students to understand the core of the CzR´s legal system and to be able to apply it. Special studies: This includes subjects which deal with the individual aspects of law in greater detail namely as far as doing business is concerned. The students can sit for the partial final examination in Law. Each study course at the Faculty of Economics and Management has a system of state examinations in which the relevant subjects provided by the Department of Law are incorporated.
Research activity:
The Department of Law is involved in interdisciplinary research in cooperation with other departments taking its own way in the field of Agricultural Law and Environment Law.
International contacts:
Cooperation with the Slovak Agricultural University at Nitra has been among the main activities in foreign relations. The Department staff actively participate in conferences organised by the Faculty of Economics and Management, particularly in the legal section of the Agrarian Perspectives annual event. Just as our Slovak colleagues participate in our conferences, our staff present their papers at conferences held in Slovakia.
Other activities:
Among the other activities, the University of Third Age belongs to the most important. Practical placements and excursions are also among the Department´s other activities.
